Times are changing – it seems that a prerequisite for our existence is to be glued to a computer screen. The trend these days is to surf the net and purchase our food on line. We’ve all done it, but although it may be handy, time
saving and convenient, it really lacks those essential pleasures – the ultimate when choosing our food – to see, touch, smell and taste.
Our aim is to encourage others, as passionate about food as we are, to return to the way of hunting and gathering – perhaps not in that primitive sense – but to offer an opportunity to experience food as it should be experienced.
Our Philosophy:
To encourage the community to SEEK out excellent quality food, GO, abandon that computer screen, embark on a mouth watering expedition and visit the shop front, make your selections, take home your treasures, prepare and EAT them.
Our intention:
We will be bringing to you – information on the suppliers, their locations and what you will find there, as well as what’s nearby and what not to miss out on. There will be recipes to experiment with handy hints for when you’re challenged. Initially we will focus on Sydney but we have tons of information on regional areas and other capital cities. All this and more …. but we’re still working on the fine details so watch this space!
Our hopes:
Consider this a trek, a journey to interesting, quality establishments where you will be able to experience such a wide variety of grand ingredients, you’ll wonder why you ever endured “screen” produce. If you’re anything like us, you want to fit as much into your food journey as you can. We hope to provide something that is not presently available – sourcing information to assist in locating the finest foods or difficult to find foods, unique establishments and culinary suppliers. There’s more to simply cooking a fantastic dish. If you have a story to accompany it, or at the very least, memories of your food quest, you have a complete meal. Food is only one of the ingredients.
Our desires:
There’s nothing to compare with walking into a delicatessen, that distinctive heady, smoky, garlicky bouquet heralding what is offered within. How about the exquisite aroma of smelly cheese as you enter the purpose built fromagerie? Plunging your hand deep into a sack of lentils (probably not too hygienic, but undoubtedly, one of life’s little pleasures). Inhaling the super caramelised atmosphere that hangs in the French style patisserie or the gluten laden air at the sourdough bakery. Could you snack the afternoon away on sample slivers of salami, rillettes, olives and cheeses? Admire layers of perfect persimmons, bunches of purple carrots still grasping clumps of soil, gaze into mirror like glossy eggplants or discover freshly picked pine mushrooms at the market (or snap up a small handful of chanterelles recently arrived from France). Does true pleasure come simply from a taste of an extraordinary fig saba. Yes, yes it does. Not one of these experiences can be achieved online.
